We offer a number of activities for members at our Learning & Development Centre in Kirkintilloch. All activities are free to attend so why not come along, meet new people and have some fun.

Winter Term 2019
The weekly classes start the week beginning 21st October and run through to the week beginning 9th December 2019.
Please note there will be no classes running on Wednesday 13th November and Wednesday 27th November due to the AGM and the SAGOD meeting.
Monday Mornings 10am – 12noon
Social Club & Games – Pop along for a cuppa and chat with your friends. You are welcome to make use of the tactile games: Scrabble, Chess, Cards, Domino’s, Boggle and more.
Taiko Drumming – Whether you have had experience playing the drums or not we would love to welcome you to the Taiko Tribe. Over the weeks learn how to play the rhythms of the Taiko drums. You will also get t explore the culture and tastes of Japan. This class is a full sensory experience and love by those who attended last year.
Monday Afternoons 2pm – 4pm
Aromatherapy Massage – Feeling tired? An aromatherapy massage could be just what you need. Essential oils can energise and de-stress leaving you feeling totally relaxed. If you are interested contact the office for a date and time for your one-hour massage.
Moon Tuition – One to one support to learn Moon. You will be led through a step by step guide to learn this form of tactile reading.
Tuesday Afternoons 2pm – 4pm
Drama – Join Gillian to create our very own Deafblind Scotland Christmas pantomime. This will be performed at Christmas time for friends and family at the Learning and Development Centre. Have fun acting the larger than life characters and rehearsing the script.

Reading Club – Continue to enjoy the freedom of reading with our reading club. Whatever your taste in reading bring it along to the class so our volunteer can share your favourite story, poem, newspaper or magazine.
Meccano Club – (23rd, 30th Oct, 6th Nov) Join Deafblind Scotland’s Meccano expert and see his amazing variety of Meccano models. You will also be led through a step by step guide to making your own models to take home. All abilities welcome.
Wednesday afternoon 2pm – 4pm
Craft Classes – Join Deafblind Scotland’s crafting expert to be led through a step by step guide to making creative craft creations. Make festive gifts and cards to take home.
BSL Lessons – Join our training officer Lorna to learn basic British Sign Language conversations using fun games. All abilities of signers welcome.
Thursday Mornings 10am – 12noon
Walking Group – Paths for All lead a walking group around the Kirkintilloch area. Each walk lasts around 1 hour 15 mins and covers roughly 2 – 3 miles. Each month the walk leaves from a different location around Kirkintilloch.

Knitting and Crocheting – All abilities of knitters welcome from beginners through to experienced. Working towards knitting projects for Deafblind Scotland.
Mental Health First Aid and Group Counselling – Learn about mental health by completing NHS Scotland’s Mental Health First Aid Course. Once you complete the course you will receive a certificate. We are also offering practical workshops where you will learn tips to help you improve your own mental health. This class will be supported by BSL tutors.
Thursday Afternoons 2pm – 4pm
Yoga Classes – 14th Nov, 5th Dec Learn the importance of breath to help relax your body and mind. All abilities welcome to try various yoga postures
Story Writing – Do you have a story to tell? Our volunteer is here to listen, type-up your story and print to keep forever. Your story can then be shared with your family and family. Everyone has an amazing story to tell and we want to hear it.
Friday Mornings 10.30am – 12.15pm
Carpet Bowls – All abilities are welcome to learn the skills of bowling and work up to competing in a mini tournament.
Friday Mornings 10am – 12noon
Karate – An introduction to Karate training with techniques and physical exercises for all abilities. You will learn new skills, improve confidence and experience some traditional etiquette and discipline.
Friday Afternoon – 2pm – 3.30pm
Digital Café – Join us for a cup of tea and a chat. Bring along your own device and share how you use your mobile phone, laptop and I-pad. Find out how to get the most from your device by learning the basics and tips on how to stay safe on-line.
Hear to Help Clinic – 2nd Monday of each Month 11.30am – 2pm
Action on Hearing Loss are running monthly drop-in clinics for hearing aid maintenance. The clinics will offer expert advice on how to look after your hearing aids, change batteries, renew tubing and general information.
Bingo 12th Nov, 3rd Dec 10.30am – 12noon – Accessible bingo with prizes to be won.
Christmas Lunches – 9th or 10th Dec 12noon – 3pm – Enjoy a 3 course Christmas lunch with your friends at Deafblind Scotland. Christmas games, quizzes and entertainment with a special visitor popping in to say hello. Family and friends are welcome to accompany you. Cost of meal if £5 for members and £10 for your guide or companion which is payable on the day.
DBS Christmas Panto, Jack and the Beanstalk – Tues 17 Dec 2pm – 3pm, Wed 18th Dec 11am – 12noon
DBS members and staff have been working hard to bring you their very own panto. There will be lots of laughs and some singing along the way.
Tennents Lager Brewery and History Tour – 31st Oct 11am – 1pm – A private out of the history of Tennents Lager followed by a tour of the brewery. Please note this tour has a lot of stairs and walking so adequate fitness is required.

Dundee V&A Museum 4th Nov 11.30am – 2pm – A private BSL tour of the Scottish Designers exhibition at the V&A Museum. Afterwards you will have one-hour free time to explore the museum before returning home.

Jupiter Artland 19th Nov 10.30am – 2.30pm – A private tour of the amazing grounds and artwork of Jupiter Artland. After lunch there will be an option of a sculpting workshop or a continuation of the tour. The tour requires some walking therefore adequate fitness is required.

Tron Theatre Pantomime – Glasgow 30th Nov 7.30pm – 9.45pm – Front row seats at the BSL performance of Cinderfella. This is sure to be a great night with lots of laughs. Group to meet in the Tron Theatre foyer at 7pm.
